About Kedarnath Temple
Lord Shiva is said to have shown himself as the Jyotirlinga, or cosmic light. There are twelve such Jyotirlingas, with Kedarnath being the tallest. Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya erected this magnificent temple over a thousand years ago. Kedarnath Temple is situated in the Rudra Himalaya range in Uttarakhand. It is located at an elevation of 3,581 meters and is a 16-kilometer journey from the nearest town of Gaurikund. The Kedarnath temple is constructed with enormous stone slabs on a broad rectangular platform. The temple is accessed via massive grey steps that lead to the Holy Sanctums. The steps bear Pali inscriptions.
